So there I am trying to script out this pilot for a TV show I came up with when I noticed one of those premade playlists that iTunes has to sucker you in. 90’s One Hit Wonders? Consider me suckered. I started listening and was soon laughing at the memories these songs were conjuring. For example:

The guitar at the beginning of this gives me chills. I remember being conflicted on whether this song was blasphemous or just plain amazing. I think I decided on amazing. - Sex and Candy - Marcy Playground
Reminds me of Tracy. I remember her singing it and me thinking, “I can’t believe they are saying ’sex and candy’ on the radio (hey, I was very Mormon)” as well as, “I don’t think Tracy is singing the right lyrics.” - The Freshmen - The Verve Pipe
Idaho roadtrip. I only had, like, one mixed tape for the whole trip. This was on it. I listened to this song on repeat. - Save Tonight - Eagle Eye Cherry

I think Leith had this song on a CD or something. I don’t really remember how I first heard it. Either way, it is still on my iPod. - Your Woman - White Town

Bev had this CD. It got old. I admit to listening to it, though.
So yeah, good stuff.
Wow…I knew all songs but 2 by heart. When I saw the title I heard the song runnin’ through my head. Hey! We need to get together before you leave, you have yet to see the infamous “mythbox”
Those bring back a lot of memories for me as well, and I felt the same about “Sex and Candy” because I too (was) very Mormon (still am-but maybe not as naive) and was living in Utah at the time and couldn’t believe THEY were playing a song that said SEX in it on the radio either! Another I loved from the 90’s was Harvey Danger’s “Save It For Later” remake of English Beat. Good stuff.
Seriously, Clint? You listened to some ridiculous music . . . While you were listening to Joan Osborne, I was listening to Fiona Apple. While you were listening to The Verve Pipe, I was rockin’ out to The Verve. BUT! I did like Marcy Playground. The singer had a very nice, low voice. :)
That really just made me feel old. My memory of Sex and Candy is of a YW trip to Nauvoo. The song came on and our YW leaders were like, “….what?!…Sex doesn’t smell?! Not a good song!” and changed the station…but we sang on….
Technically, I believe your YW leader was wrong. Sex does have a smell…

Okay, when the Verve Pipe song was released I was in the 8th grade. C’mon, can I really be condemned for my musical tastes in the 8th grade? Well, maybe, but I’d like to say that I had the entire Verve tape Ms. Sara Snow. …Even though I only really liked “Bittersweet Symphony” and, like, one other song. Most of my musical maturation can be attributed to Ashley A. and Ashley W.
