Random

thoughtlessly living our lives

Literally.

I was thinking of something to write about. I started to write about The Copyeditor’s Handbook which I bought as a result of its huge recommendation by Sarah. Shortly after flipping through it, I decided that grammar was a complete impediment to communication. Then there was nothing. I thought, “maybe I’ll write some random opinion that I’ve developed.” None came. No opinions, even. Then I realized I was thoughtlessly living my life. Not thoughtless in the sense that I’ve been careless or reckless (can one, in fact, be reckful?), but rather I have been living without thinking. I’ve formed no opinion about the huge accident on the 5 that clogged LA traffic even more than normal. I don’t know what I think about Mitt Romney running for president. I don’t even know what I think about…I can’t think of another thing that I haven’t thought about.

Wait, what?

I wonder if it is the nature of being an adult and having a “real job” that prompts one to turn into a brainless zombie. Doing the same thing day in and day out has to wear down at a person. Even as I write that, I realize that that cannot be the case because I haven’t had a “real job” in, well, ever. I kind of have a real job, but it is far enough away from a normal job to ruin the experiement.

Maybe it doesn’t have to be a “real” job, but, perhaps, any job could illicit zombification. That can’t be it either, because I’ve met more than my share of brainless unemployed people. When did someone sneak in and steal my thoughts? Should I blame the media? The government? NASA? You’re right, not NASA, they’ve got plenty of ideas already. Sigh.

I guess I’ll just see what is on TV.
