will i ever be rid of the 1906 san francisco earthquake?

I was perusing the hits from my SiteMeter and I realized that given that the name of my blog has an important-ish sounding title (I mean, american life, that sounds important or influential even though it is niether) and the titles of my posts are pretty random as well as the random photos….I get hits from all over the place from all sorts of searches.

The deadline for my 1906 San Francisco earthquake paper got pushed to Friday which is wonderful since I’ve written nothing. Absolutely nothing. 12 pages. Nothing. I tried to write on Saturday, but I couldn’t get anything down…at all. So I watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I think I like it better than the origional. I’ve never been a fan of Gene Wilder, but beyond that I think I like the inclusion of the sub plot involving Willy Wonka’s father. It adds a bit of depth to his character, but also it adds a bit of depth to the movie. In the origional, I thought it was kind of just a sparkly spectacle. In the new version there is a point.

While I’m goinng on about movies….

The Matrix Reloaded: I liked better than the origional. When you look at the films in hindsight without the baggage of the special effects being state-of-the-art, the first film is fairly weak story-wise. There is an interesting setup, but in Reloaded, we finally are able to explore the mythology a little. I really like the Oracle.

Dazed and Confused: I did a report on Linklater in the spring, but I have to admit…I can’t get through this movie. It’s just kind of boring. You could always argue that it is a nostalgia film and you have to have lived at the time, but I liked American Graffiti.

Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle: Like the first one, it is basically a 106 minute music video. It works. I was never meant to have a point (see above), and it doesn’t. After I watched it, I was flipping through the channels and came across Fast Lane on G4. I thought it looked (the style) a lot like Charlie’s Angels and then I found the reason: both are done by McG.

Wow, the quality of the movies I see has really gone downhill since I had to cancel Netflix.
