living in a cardboard box

a box for every cat

No, I am not FedExing my boss’ cat. When you search Flickr for “box” you get lots of cats in cardboard…as well as some weird nudes that I don’t feel like discussing right now.

In anticipation of my internship drawing to a close and the possibility of staying in Atlanta, I spent Saturday making a budget of how much it would cost to live in Atlanta. It takes alot, my friend. Who knew that I was so expensive? Actually who knew that people in general were so high maintenance?

I decided to look at some apartments in the area to have a better idea of what I would get for what price. On a whim, I decided to walk around the Midtown on foot and I came across a couple of apartments that would be in my price range (and in the city, which is a big plus).

I found one apartment and actually arranged to go see it. It was in a carriage house behind a house. The guy opened the door and I almost laughed. Are you kidding? It’s so small. It was a studio apartment that was smaller than my bedroom back in Tuscaloosa (and that wasn’t a big bedroom). It was only $525 a month which is really cheap for the location. I would be able to walk to work and to just about anywhere else I’d want to go – even Starbucks with whom I have a love/hate relationship at the moment. The rent included water and gas which is a huge bonus, but I couldn’t help thinking…I need something just a little bit bigger.

You know, there is the possibility that I might start dating or something and after a while when the girl still hasn’t seen my apartment, she is going to start thinking I’m homeless – especially since I’m down to only two pairs of jeans.

I’ve also fallen in love with Ikea. Given the modular design of a lot of their furniture, many people joke about it being furniture for college students, but seeing the cramped quarters in which I may potentially live, a bed-couch-wardrobe-in-one might prove useful.

You know, Ikea has some very large boxes that you could live in! And they have lingonberries and meatballs, so you could just find a bed in the store and stay there. And Ashley says that she thought you only had one pair of jeans
