The past two days, I’ve been canoeing with
David.
Wednesday we went to Lake Harris to “test out” the canoe patch that Blasen (it’s his canoe) put on it. It worked fine and we discovered that Lake Echols empties into Lake Harris so we messed around at the Lake Nichol’s spillway and I discovered you can stick your head under the rapids and breathe just fine (although it is weird). We came back to the car and ate pineapple out of a Ziploc. We then tried to catch fish in a net, but when that didn’t work we tried just using our hands. I was sitting under a dock waiting for fish to swim into my hands, but then I realized I hadn’t anything better to do. Needless to say, we didn’t catch any fish that way so we tried putting the net on the lake floor and pull up when the fish swam over it. No dice. Jesse came and we jumped out from under the dock and startled him.
Yesterday we went to Davis Creek and paddled down it to the Black Warrior. The water was low and we had to haul to canoe over rocks several times, but it was fun and several times we just said to heck with it and tried to power our way over them.
We saw a water moccaisin, several water snakes, a deer, two of the biggest dead snapping turtles I’d ever seen, and lots of fish. I also never thought I’d be able to tie a canoe to the top of my car. Hey, what do you know.
We watched “White Noise” last night. It was terrible.
