fuerza bruta, muy bruta

In my psychology and law class we had a corporal from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriffs Office come and speak. It was probably one of the most interesting presentations that I’ve seen in college.

Corp. Holloway is a member of the Tactical devision (SWAT) and also is in charge of training. Apparantly the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff is the president of the National Sheriff’s Association (I just double checked and yeah, he is). Tuscaloosa’s Sheriffs Office is also considered to be in the top five with regards to training, equipment, funding, etc. They even have a mini-tank-looking thing.

He talked about a lot of situations they face. He focused on hostage situations which was what we were what are studying right now. He knew his audience and show a few graphic videos and talked about use of deadly force. I can be pretty liberal at times, but I’ve always been sympathetic towads police officers. You point a gun at a cop, you get shot. I find it amazing how some people are extremely lenient with self-defense yet expect a cop to shoot a suspect in the leg.

He also talked a bit about New Orleans, about people tying bodies to street signs so they wouldn’t float away and sharks swimming into the city to feed….
