I scrambled this weekend. It was amazing. I have to admit there was a bit of apprehension before the weekend started. I thought it might suck. Scramble films usually do. Mine did. Once we got started, I realized that this film wasn’t going to suck. It has its issues (any film done in 48 hours probably will), but I’m proud of what we ended up with. I kind of wonder what all of us could come up with if we were given more time.
Friday night we went to the kick-off meeting at the Carver Theater. There we were given our requirements. Scott, the team leader placed us in Division 2, which is the professional division. Oh yeah, the requirements:
- Our assigned genre was film noir.
- All movies had to include a montage.
- Five minute limit.
- Our assigned prop was jumper cables.
- All movies had to include something that turned.
We ended up doing a piece about an assassain (film noir, remember) who suspects his lover of cheating on him – and doesn’t take it too well. It is pretty cliche, but we have a pretty high body count – around 8 in five minutes. Tyler, the editor, did a cool three-way spit screen thing so the murder and mayhem wasn’t overwhelming.
I fell down stairs…on purpose.
At the end of this weekend I thought, “I get to do this for a living!!” Cool.
