new addition to my favorite directors list

I watched another film by Walter Salles last night, “Behind the Sun.” I originally put it in my Netflix queue because it was a Portuguese language film, but after watching “The Motorcycle Diaries,” I was anxious to watch it.

The cinematography was absolutely beautiful. In class we’ve been talking about directors that let the characters and the plot tell the story, but Salles is a director of the second sort – it’s the directors that tell you the story. I was a bit frustrated that I didn’t understand the dialog since my Portuguese is worse than I thought, but then I realized that there wasn’t that much dialog at all. There were lines, but the story was really told almost entirely with the visuals.

Anthony and I are entered into the Sidewalk Scramble this weekend. It’ll be my (and his) first time to do it. While I was recruting people to help at Family Home Evening someone told me that they like some of the stuff I’ve done, so they wanted to help. Dang, no pressure or nothing. I’ve made next to nill, yet there are expectations? Make a movie in 48 hours – should be interesting.

We spelled our team name wrong. We spelled it “J.J. and the Cannabanoids.” As it turns out it is supposed to be “J.J. and the Cannabinoids.” The name was suggested by someone else and I didn’t hear what they said it meant; turns out that cannabinoid is a chemical component of marajuana. Hmmm, interesting.

About the triathlon thing. I’m still doing it, but I found a training journal-type website where I can keep track of all that stuff so I won’t have to put it here. Yesterday I ran 1.5 miles and then did some crunches and then rode an exercise bike set to level 10 and hills for 5 miles. Honestly it wasn’t that bad. I focused on proper breathing in the running and I didn’t get a stitch in my side until the very end. I could have gone longer on the bike, but I was getting a bit bored and I didn’t have a water bottle, and I didn’t have headphones to listen any of the 8 plasma tvs that were in front of me. Our rec is so cool.
