So the shoot was back on again. Crazy, huh? Anyway since the producer got stuck in traffic on I 20/59, to shoot was moved to Eutaw, Alabama. The people whose house we were using actually know my parents.
Here are some of the duties of a production assistant:
- Run to Piggly Wiggly to get the nervous artist some merlot.
- Help assemble an 18ft jib arm.
- Go back to Piggly Wiggly to get a bottle opener for the merlot.
- Control music playback on the iPod.
- Move stuff out of the shot
- Re-route people who are coming to the open house and about to walk into the shot.
- Move stuff out of the shot
- Help move the jib-arm, with all the counter weights still on.
- Help the DP adjust the lights.
- Move stuff out of the shot
- Help think up an alternate ending when a dozen roses cannot be found in Eutaw, Alabama.
- Make a run to Church’s Chicken for lunch.
- Eat lunch while the producer/director coaches actors.
- Lay on ground while controlling iPod so shadow isn’t visible in the shot.
- Try to knock a water bottle off a box with rocks.
- Move stuff out of the shot.
- Keep a kid from shouting while we are rolling for sound.
- Move stuff out of the shot.
- Pull up grass so the ring is visible in the shot.
- Packing up the jib-arm and all of the equipment.
- Go home and dream about jib-arms.
Sweet.
