I don’t mind fast. I don’t mind twisty and loopy. But high scares the crap out of me.
Okay. Let me first start off with the fact that this was only the second time I’ve been to an amusement park…ever. Last time I went with the Ashleys (Cole and now-Aynes) and Bozemen. (Was there anyone else on that trip? I really apologize if I am forgetting someone. My mind…not so sharp.) It was fun. Superman was cool. Batman was awesome. Even Ninja was fun if you braced yourself in just the right way to avoid shock damage to your skeletal system.
This time I rode Goliath and Acrophobia. For those who aren’t in the know. Acrophobia is a “ride” where they strap you and about 20 of your closest strangers in to chairs, hoist you to the top of a radio tower, tilt you so you have a good view of your own death, and drop you for no good reason. I closed my eyes for the first half of the fall.
And then came Goliath. We were in line for Deja Vu (oh, and by we, I mean Cody and I) when we saw that it was going to take a rediculous amount of time, so we bailed in favor of the Georgia Scorcher (the stand-up coaster). They shut the ride down for inclement weather, so we took avantage of that fact to hop in the now-shortened line for Goliath. The ‘inclement weather’ turned into torential downpours (plus hail). I remembered that I left my sunroof open and there was much weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth. (How does one gnash?)
After about an hour and a half the rain cleared, lightning stopped and I was being hauled up the tallest ride in the park by that chain thingy that pulls the coasters up. 200 feet. Above concrete. I spend most of the ride with my eyes closed. Dude, that ride is just too tall. Am I a wuss. Yes. Do I care? No. You will also notice that I have now added “Ride Goliath in its entirety with my eyes open.” to the list of things to do before I die. That should take a lifetime.

I was there! Gosh!
Well I’m happy for you? I didn’t know this was your only 2nd time going to an amusement park. Hmmm…we still would like to go to six flags but we can’t seem to get time to do it….surprising since we have live only 15 min from it…hope you had fun. Did you scream like a girl?
If you’re up to the challenge of riding Goliath in it’s entirety with your eyes open sometime soon, please invite me. I absolutely LOVE rollercoasters. My favorite is the Superman, followed closely by the Batman. I used to like the Ninja, until neck-jolting became too much to bear. There are just so, so many great rides at Six Flags, and it’s been way too long since I’ve been. I never even heard of the Goliath before. It sounds incredible. I would love to try it.
Oh, man, Clint. I just read your “About Me” list, and I laughed out loud at some of those. Did you know that we have 25 things in common? I counted.
Hey. You’re not the biggest wuss ever. At least you got on those rides. Feel proud. And I love, love, love Goliath. Rode it 3 times in a row, in the front, with my eyes open the whole time. Woohoo!
