comcast is evil

Comcast doesn’t care

No really, run by Satan this company is.

I sounded a bit like Yoda there. I’m not trying to steal cable, but Comcast is making it very hard to pay for it.

Here is the whole story.

We moved into our new aparmtent about a month ago. We found that the cable was still turned on from the previous tenant. We also needed broadband, however, so we called Comcast and set up a morning installation date. ~$50 for the installation fee. Okay, so far so good (not great because of the $50, but whatever).

We already had a cable modem, so we decided to hook it up and see if it worked. It did. I called Comcast and seeing how everything was working, I asked if we could simply have the account put in our name. Because everything was working there was nothing for the technician to install. Comcast insisted that a technician visit was required to initiate service (that we already had). Okay, fine, whatever.

The installation date comes, I take the morning off of work and sit and surf the Internet while I waited for Comcast to come and install the Internet. I finally get a call saying the tech. was running late and wouldn’t be there until an hour after the scheduled block of time. Well, no dice, because I had to go back to work. Since that didn’t work, my second plan was to wait until a month had passed and then call Comcast up and say that I’d never received a bill and sorting it out that way.

That worked…for about two weeks.

Aparantly the system locks out accounts that haven’t been “installed.” Lame. We woke up one moning to find the Comcast screen of death on our monitors. I know I’ll actually have a day off this week, so I give in and call. The woman wants to charge me $75 to install service ON AN ACTIVE LINE. I complain…vocally. The woman says she can lower my internet installation fee from $50 to $10. If she could do that the whole time, why didn’t she do it earlier!? Comcast, there are people out there that actually want to pay for the services they receive, but they want to pay a fair price and not have to put up with horrid customer service.

How can you run a business this way? Because you are a monopoly, that’s why. If I had a choice…then competition would force you to provide lower prices and decent service. Now, who else are we going to use? TimeWarner? Charter? No, if we want cable tv/internet, we have to use you. Communistcast….you suck.
